One simple way of making some extra cash is to sell blog posts. I’ve had quite a bit of experience selling blog posts when I used paid blogging as a way of earning extra cash. I’m by no means an expert, but I have learnt some vital lessons. They are all simple tips and make sense with the littlest spot of thought.
Do bear in mind, you’ll never earn a fortune doing paid blogging. However, it can be a great way to earn yourself some starting capital for a new venture that could potentially earn you a fortune!
1) Don’t copy and paste articles from your buyer - If you simply paste duplicated content on your blog, you are devaluing your blog instantly. Search engines will basically penalise your site for having content that appears on other sites. Pasting articles is a lazy way to add content to your site that will give you no long-term earnings (as in longer than a month or two). Oh, and the search engines will probably drop you from their listings too.
2) Keep the paid post frequency low - Posting paid posts on your blog too frequently will really irritate your readers. There’s no simple way to hide paid posts from your regular readers, as the advertiser wants your readers to see the review. But try to see if you can integrate the review or post links in a daily story your readers will be interested in.
3) Claim your blog with Technorati - Technorati.com have a unique and popular measure of a blog’s popularity by counting the number of other blogs that link to it (called authority). If your blog is claimed with Technorati, then if you link to another blog, then their authority increases by 1. Technorati are very strict with blogs and blacklist spam blogs. Therefore if you have a good blog, a great way to prove it is to have claimed it with Technorati with solid Authority.
4) Say NO to low quality sites -If you don’t like the site that the advertiser wants you to review, or it has questionable content, then you can say no. Any decent advertiser should respect your right to refuse a site if you believe its not in the interest of your blog. Don’t chase the money, ensure the blog is of high quality.
5) Remember Quality, not Quantity - It’s an old saying, but its very true. Blog Networks have become very common now, where an article is taken and posted on tens, if not hundreds, of blogs. The same article. Remember my tip about duplicated content? Sometimes the article is put through a primitive substitution engine to create random variations of articles using different words in the article, but is often unreadable. This model is not sustainable, and will harm both the buyer and seller in the long term. Run a high quality blog, and you will get plenty of business in the future.
Just a final point. Be professional. When selling any services or content, if you’re professional and friendly, you will earn respect from your customers. Treat them well, and they will come back for more. That applies to business generally, but its worryingly uncommon!
