Sowing the Seeds

It’s clear that the current economic climate is stressful for many people. With the threat of redundancies, banks going bust, big companies going into administration, and poor pension performance, no wonder the global economic mood is a little pessimistic.

However, rather than wait to be made redundant (if you’re in full time employment) or wait for a job (if you’re looking for a job), I recommend investigating how you can work for yourself and earn an extra income. Sure it’s a difficult time to make money, but it’s worth being proactive to make some cash to prepare for the worst. You never know, your sideline might even become a full business!

Buy Your Own Name As A Domain Name

Whilst I’ve been pondering the ways I can exploit my experience and skills to make money and eventually escape the rat race, I wondered how I should represent myself. Having an online identity relating to you as an individual makes a lot of sense if your business is heavily related to you as an individual too.

For example, if you have a reputation as a public speaker, photographer, life coach, counsellor, or any other similar service, it would make sense to have a domain name that uses your own name.

So you’ve chosen to work for yourself. Be it for more freedom, the opportunity to make money from what you enjoy or the chance to make a real success of yourself in life. It’s well known among my friends that I have a few websites that earn me extra cash in addition to my day job. When I meet new people, they often ask what I do and are frequently impressed by my online ventures. More often than not, I hear something like “I wish I could do that”, “I don’t know how you find the time”, “I’m not smart enough for something like that”. Which I believe to be utter nonsense.
