I’m running out of time to get all my projects sorted, so I basically need to start outsourcing my work. However, my experience with finding writers has been very hit and miss. I’d love to hear ideas and your experience on hiring different types of content writers.
I’m after these types of writers.
I’ve used ScriptLance and the Digital Point Forums before. However, I was unhappy with the results. Therefore I’d really appreciate your ideas.
I’ve heard some good things about elance and TextBroker. Any comments on these?
Thanks in advance.

My partner is a full time freelance copywriter. She charges £25 for 500 words (.. £5 for 100 words), and she has a particular interest in eco / environment stuff. Drop me an email if you’re interested. Can provide examples.
I’ve used elance before to find copywriters. However, as with pretty much anywhere else, you have to go through 10 or so just to find 1 that’s any good. Also, if the copy is for UK sites, then I really think it’s best to get a UK copywriter. Otherwise, you’ll constantly be amending US spellings and other colloquialisms that inevitably slip through.
Hi Chromate
Thanks for the offer, I’ll bare that in mind. My budget is very tight, so I’m going to give elance a go initially. My requirements are very specific, so that should make things easier for finding a writer/researcher.
The site has mostly US traffic, but with some UK traffic. So Americanisms are not much of an issue. I think the primary barrier for me is cost, as I need to be able to cover the cost of the work in revenue earnt from the site. However, I do have a plan for this.

No probs. Do keep her in mind for the future. She’s reliable and produces solid work.
A quick pointer on elance, from personal experience… Make sure you check the samples the writer provides carefully - over and above the feedback scores. Quite often the buyer will have poor English skills themselves, and so they overlook errors in the work submitted, giving them great feedback that doesn’t reflect the quality of work at all.

Rich,
What I’ll require from elance or scriptlance is that they provide a small sample based on my exact specifications. If they get it wrong, they’re wrong for the job.
It can be really hard to select writers that way. However, I am a writer myself and most of my clients post in Craiglist. So why use your local Craiglist and sign up from there. It is free… I hope this helps
Hi francesca. I’ve heard of craigslist, that’s about it. I’m currently trialling a job on elance.com
Check gumtree out, maybe you find someone over there.
I guess getafreelancer.com is worth to try. I head its free and many of my friend told me about its effectiveness.
I’ve used Digital Point forums as well and I tried working with over 40 authors in total. 80% were copying and/or rewriting wikipedia articles, and most of the writing was sub-par anyway. However I managed to find 2 really great authors there and I’ve been working with both of them for over a year now.
You will get it from getfreelancers.com and craigslist.org
So far, I like elance. You get an idea of experience, feedback and the amount of business a freelancer has done.

I get writers from craiglist, I usually ask them to write 300 words for a topic I want and assess if they have the right stuff, I hope everything works well for you too..
I have found that there are several online sites where you can get small “junk” articles written, but for best quality copy I have found hiring a writer personally is best.
yeah, i think Al is right, hiring a writer personally is best, because you can customize him according to your needs and time and ask him to re do the article again and again
