So a mixture of updates about what I’ve been doing for a change. Today’s update includes my foray into outsourcing to reduce the amount of time I spend in front of a PC, a new domain that I’ve purchased and the progress of my new sites EnviroGadget.com and DailyEcoTips.com.
I’ve got a new mini site that I’m creating at the moment, but I just couldn’t find the time or motivation to actually write the content (3-5 months of laziness and RSI troubles). Therefore I decided that I really must outsource the work to get moving. In doing some research, I found that finding article writers was becoming hit’n'miss, as the quality of work varied massively. Therefore I’ve decided to give ScriptLance a go.
I’ve found a writer for a good price, and I’m in the process of sending her details and escrow payment. The handy thing about ScriptLance is that has its own escrow payment system to help reduce issues with payment for both buyers and programmers. I’ll let you know how things unfold.
Now I’m really excited about this domain, because I classify it as a decent domain (not quite premium though), yet I picked it up for only £250 including nominet fees (£10 +VAT). I bought it up just a few days ago on a forum.
I have plans to lease it once I’ve ranked it in the search engines as a mini site. I’m hoping that I can earn some revenue with the site being a mini site until I find a suitable tenant, which may or may not take a while. I’m not intending to sell it in the near-term, based on advice I’ve read on Self Made Minds. It’s more of an investment.
Both sites are slowly starting to bring in more traffic, as I’ve been doing a large number of guest posts. I’ve found that a notable number of people are happy to paste content on their site for free if it’s well written. That way I’ve been gaining in-content links from blogs in the same niche as mine. My aim is to have around 50 RSS/Email subscribers by Christmas. Currently I have ~18 for DailyEcoTips.com and ~28 for EnviroGadget.com.
I’ve yet to put any advertising on DailyEcoTips. Affiliate marketing probably won’t do that well, that suits EnviroGadget.com better due to the focus on gadgets and sites that typically have affiliate schemes.
Any ideas of what might suit DailyEcoTips?

Nice purchase Dan, I tried to catch that one but failed
nice domain indeed.
Thanks Scot. What’s your expectation of valuation on the domain? I’m a regular reader of SelfMadeMinds, so I know what you kids get up to
To the trade (domainer2domainer) I would think around £500 just now as it’s so quiet for buying/selling, to an end user low 4 figures… rising if developed with traffic, especially if you could get leads, all those people who have savings worry about stocks, shares & property so need an advisor, if your developing it try and get an email mailing list subscription going.
rightyho, thanks for the advice! I was going to develop it, but will focus on getting a mailing list / leads.
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for sharing the link to scriptlance. I’ve been looking for some help with my site and I’m going to use that site!
That moneyadviser domain was a nice find, have you considered developing it yourself as a full site? With the current economic problems people are starting to watch their money closely and I’ll bet that sites like moneysavingexpert are seeing a traffic increase.
Hi John,
I am actually thinking of turning it into a full site. Because it’s a geo domain (i.e. UK), there’s plenty of resources I could put on it.
It does lend itself to being a blog actually, then I can send news/updates via RSS/Email to useful or interesting articles.
Dan
