So another mixture of useful tips and resources today. An inspirational article by someone with a long term illness that caused them to re-evaluate their life (in a way I did with my RSI), how to optimise your Wordpress blog for high traffic, how to recover unverified email subscribers and a little humour with some very unfortunate choices of domain names.
Havi Carel’s article on dealing with a rear lung condition with no known cure. As a philosophy lecturer, she had to use some of her knowledge and understanding to help her with her own life. Most noteably, how to live with your illness and still be happy. This article was an inspiration to me, and it’s a good read.
If your wordpress-based site becomes popular, you’re going to have to deal with large volumes of traffic. I stumbled on some wordpress optimisation tips, including some on high volume wordpress sites. Essentially it’s about tweaking software configurations, minimising plugins and using caching.
Daily Blog Tips had a good article recently, that addresses the issues of subscribers to your RSS feed via email not fully completing the opt-in subscription process. Dan gives a suggestion on how you can use the Feedburner tool to give you the email addresses of those who haven’t fully subscribed and hopefully encourage them to subscribe properly.
For domainers and non-domainers, an article on dodgy domain names will lighten your day. Please share it with others, as most people find it entertaining.
For us Brits, here’s a nice article from BBC news about dodgy £1 coins. Clearly not a reference for the forgers to do a better job though!!

I liked the funny domain names
I’ve bought some domain names in the past that with hindsight were terrible!
I’ve certainly made a few mistakes with domains in the past. I think we all have.
However, if we didn’t make mistakes, we wouldn’t learn.
hahaha thats some funny domains. Its funny how they didnt notice it as they made it.
