Here’s another collection of tips that I’ve collected together over the last month or so. Find out about the different ways of making money with websites, an SEO checklist for new websites, blogging software tool advice, how search engines see your blog, and adding a privacy policy for Google Adsense with a Wordpress plugin.
Time and time again people ask about all the different ways that they can make money with their websites. Do you know about them all? Not all ideas are suitable for all websites and so its always worth experimenting with different techniques to see which gives you the best returns.
The Daily Blog Tips article discusses Pay-Per-Click (PPC) systems, Cost per Mille (CPM) (payments per 1000 impressions), banner advertising, text link adverts, affiliate marketing, sponsored reviews, RSS Feed adverts, premium content, real-estate on your site for regular content advertising, private forums, paid surveys like YouGov, Valued Opinions and Ciao, donations, selling services and more. There are 28 tips in total, but only 60% of them are practical in my opinion.
Self Made Minds has created an Search Engine Optimisation checklist that gives you an easy reference to help you improve your site for rankings in the search engines. There are lists of tips for individual pages, site-wide SEO improvements and external factors relating to your site. The list is not exhaustive, but it detailed enough to give you a leg up with your rankings.
If you have a number of blogs, then you might appreciate the benefits of a desktop blogging client. You can use rich-text editing, get support for a number of blogging platforms, spelling checks, archive old posts, and more. HongKiat.com has a rather long list of blogging clients for you to take a look at. Some clients are free, some cost money. Sadly there isn’t a summary of features for each of the clients, but its worth knowing what blogging clients exist to see if they can boost your productivity. I wonder if any of them feature a mind-mapping tool?
If you’re interested to find out how search engines see your website, then have a play with SEO browser. It has both simple and advanced modes to give you basic analysis of your meta tags, page load times, text to weight ratio and a few other bits of information. Used with other free online tools it can be very useful. I personally use CheckPageRank.net (for backlink info, using my Firefox Search Engine Plugin), and the page strength tool from SEOMoz.
If you haven’t heard already, Google are insisting that all Adsense websites must display a privacy policy. However, don’t worry, as this is not too difficult to do. If you want to add a privacy policy to a Wordpress blog, I recommend this very easy to use privacy policy Wordpress plugin. If you don’t have a Wordpress blog, but have a php-based website, then Nullamatix has a generic PHP-based template for you to use.
That’s it for another batch of tips. Do let me know if you like this format of tips or not!
