A few small tips for you today. How to implement an e-shop within Wordpress, optimising your Meta Description Tag in Wordpress, the benefits of long tail keywords, fixing the alignment of images in based on features introduced in Wordpress 2.5+, and how to reduce your eBay and Paypal fees.

I was recently asked about how I could implement an eShop within Wordpress. The idea was that this person wanted to sell a few items to earn some extra money, but they didn’t want a full blown shop. With some searching on the web, I found that many Wordpress shop plugins were no longer developed. Then I stumbled on WP e-Commerce, which is a free plugin with a premium option. Looks pretty good too. I haven’t had a chance to play with it, but I’ll report my findings when I do.

The Meta Tag in the head tag area of a web page is often used by search engines as a description of the page when they show search results. It carries weight in the Yahoo search engine, but not the Google search engine. However, it is worth thinking about as it offers a better introduction for your visitors in search results. Daily Blog Tips offers a simple tip for dynamically generating your descriptions from your posts.

Long Tail Keywords are those odd little search phrases users type in to find your website. If you give them a little consideration, you should be able to boost your website traffic by focusing on non-competitive keyword combinations.

In Wordpress 2.5, the image update feature was over-hauled to allow you to align images within your posts. However, only a few (new) themes support this. Daily Blog Tips has the CSS you need to update your template to align images correctly.

And finally, if you’re out of money making ideas, I suggest having a declutter around your home. It’s a healthy thing to do anyway, as most people are hoarders. If you want to minimise your costs when flogging something on eBay, this article on reducing your eBay fees is an interesting read.
